Technological advancements in the last couple of decades have shrunk our massive world into what is now commonly referred to as a global village. The Internet has indeed broadened our mental horizons. We are constantly inter-connected, and the social media perfectly demonstrates our evolutionary need of being interdependent. Technology and the Internet continue to fuel the inter-linkages between organizations, both within and across countries. It has paved the way for drastically new forms of communication, that have in turn reduced our reliance on face-to-face interactions. As such, technology and the Internet have allowed organizations to disperse geographically, forming teams located in different parts of the country, or the world. However, despite the many great benefits that virtual teams bring, there are still many challenges that are often overlooked by organizations. Virtual modes of communication do not automatically translate into positive outcomes. There are many different factors that affect the way we interact with- and perceive each other virtually. The purpose of the present paper is, therefore, to outline ten tips to consider when working in and/or managing virtual teams.
